Bruce Campbell is voicing Ash Williams in immersive game
Two months ago, Bruce told us at 1428 Elm that fans would dig upcoming incarnations of the Evil Dead franchise. Now, he is confirming that he will be voicing Ash Williams in a new video game.
“I retired him so why would I feel bad about it? I feel great about it.” – Bruce Campbell on “Ash Williams”
Virtual Reality Ash
In May, Bruce told us here at 1428 Elm, there would be upcoming incarnations of the Evil Dead franchise on Twitter. However, he couldn’t really get into particulars at the time.
Well, yesterday he confirmed that he would be voicing the character of Ash Williams in a video game. In a forthcoming interview with Meagan Navarro of Bloody Disgusting the actor had this to say about his pending venture into virtual reality:
“They are doing a video game. A whole immersive kind of dealio. I’ll be Ash for that, because I wouldn’t want someone else’s voice hamming it up.”
The fact that Bruce wouldn’t want another actor assuming the role of Ash is totally understandable. After all, he was the face and the voice of that iconic character for almost four decades. However, Campbell has been very vocal about having retired his portrayal of the chainsaw handed hero from the sky.
In an earlier interview with Horror Fuel, the actor reiterated his decision, stating that he “left it all on the table,” and he was “fully done.” Which is what Ms. Navarro asked him. Did participation in the game negate his adamant declaration?
Campbell responded, “Oh no, no, that’s different. I have previous obligations I have to fulfill.” It will be interesting to see what iteration this game will take.
There will definitely be a market for anything Evil Dead oriented with Bruce attached.
