Jason Blum wants to reboot Friday the 13th and other slasher films

Jason Blum of Blumhouse posted a series of tweets expressing interest in rebooting other classic slasher films beyond Halloween, including Friday the 13th.

Let’s just see how Halloween turns out first…

Previously, Jason Blum made it clear he has the interest in rebooting the Friday the 13th franchise. Obviously, the rights to that series are in question, and it could be a while before we see the inevitable next film. However, Blum still very much wants to bring Jason Voorhees to Blumhouse one day, admitting he’s tried several times to make it happen.

In a Q&A session from his official Twitter account, Blum opened the doors for fans to ask him anything. Many horror fans took the opportunity to ask him about rebooting other major franchises and classic films. When it comes to Friday the 13th, Blum laments how he’s tried many times to get the license, but it’s “for sure” something he wants to do.

As someone who clearly embraces remakes and reboots, Blum also spoke on other horror remake possibilities. He revealed that he tried to get the rights to Christine and The Crow. He also mentions his interest in doing an Alien movie, and isn’t writing off doing something with Scream as well. He doesn’t directly comment on A Nightmare on Elm Street, though he seems open to that as well, as he’s not saying no.

Curiously, Blum also touched on the new Slender Man movie, which could have had his involvement. Although he tried desperately to come on board as a producer, Blum was apparently turned down “about 300 times.” If nothing else, it’s clear he’s a huge horror fan, and if Halloween does as well as we’re all hoping, the odds become much greater Blumhouse will become involved with other franchises.
