9. I’m Your Puppet – James and Bobby Purify (S02 E07 Delusion)

My favorite episode in the entire series is Delusion for many reasons. First of all, it is a tour de force performance from Bruce Campbell. I have waxed rhapsodic on this many times at 1428 Elm but I think the actor was robbed of an Emmy nomination.

We see an introspective Ash who is concerned that he might be losing his mind. Of course, Baal has placed him in an asylum to break him so that he can use him to locate the Necronomicon. However, this proves to be more challenging than Baal thinks.

Another reason to enjoy this particular show is the introduction of Ashy Slashy, the puppet doppelganger of Ash Williams. Looking like a felt version of our chainsaw wielding hero, he is raunchy and funny but oh, so adorable.

However, Kelly finds out that he isn’t just a cute reject from Sesame Street. When she engages Ashy in hand to hand combat you can’t help but laugh out loud!

The classic ’60s song, I’m Your Puppet plays over the end credits which is perfect in so many ways. Not only because of having an actual puppet co-star in the episode but because Baal believes that Ash will become his puppet.
