When I’m Done with Something, I’m Done

1428 Elm: Is that starting in January or after the holidays?

BC: I don’t know. Holidays I always try to clear the deck. Just so that no one’s bugging me during them. The weather is s***** anyway. It’s a bad time to travel.

1428 Elm: I think one of the worst things in life is to work on someone else’s agenda. It’s the biggest pain in the ass.

BC: Not if the project is good. Burn Notice was fine at the time but I don’t want to carve out 7 years of my life. I don’t think I will do that again.

I don’t think I will be going to the Southern Hemisphere again to work. It will be a while. I don’t think I will be going to Miami again to work either.

You know when I’m done with something, I’m done with it.

1428 Elm: Does it ever frustrate you that your fans can’t seem to move on?

BC: I don’t care. They are entitled to their completely informed opinion. You know, it’s fine. I don’t take issue with it.

It doesn’t mean I have to do what they want either. They have their needs and wants and desires and so do I. It’s fine for them to hassle me. I don’t have a problem with it.

On Writing

1428 Elm: Turning our attention back to your writing. You have a myriad of projects that you are working on and you mentioned that you have several comedies in the mix. Do you find that it is harder to write comedy than drama?

BC: No. I think people tend to overthink that. They just have different agendas, that’s all. I’m ready for a comedy.

BC (Cont): You know, Evil Dead certainly was part comedy but the other part was always dark. You’re in dark places. I want to make a big, brightly lit comedy, you know? I’m ready for that now. I think the world is ready for it.

1428 Elm: What is your definitive film?

BC: I don’t have anything definitive. Every actor wants to do a western. I’ve done a western show but I’d like to do a western movie. I like the genre. But definitive? That’s for somebody else to define.

Definitive to me is something that sounds indulgent. I just want to establish a pipeline of being able to work directly with companies now. I have to go meet the new Hollywood.

I don’t know any of these people at any of these companies, you know? Let’s go talk to Amazon and Hulu and what the hell are they looking for? Because everything is changing so rapidly now.

Netflix is the biggest game in town. Everything’s changing. AMC is changing. STARZ is trying to emerge and do their thing. Some of these companies are getting bought and sold. It’s all up in the air now.

I’d like to go and reintroduce myself to the wonderful world of Hollywood to see what’s going on.

1428 Elm: Have you written anything genre like science fiction?

BC: I have never been a huge genre guy. That’s not the first thing that occurs to me. Most of my stuff is not “genreable.”

Work in Progress

1428 Elm: What can your fans look forward to? Anything beyond Lodge 49 and Last Fan Standing?

BC: Here’s the bottom line. I don’t list things anymore. There are no more lists. People will see s*** when it happens.

No more plans, no more schedules, there is no more nothing. I’ve got the new book deal so hopefully that will be coming out in 2020. I’m hoping to do 20 cities in 2020.

There is going to be more of that. There is nothing that is set in stone. That is the most awesome part of all of it.

1428 Elm: In terms of your book, you are too young to write the last chapter in your trilogy. Is this going to be an effort like Make Love the Bruce Campbell Way, is it going to be something you have fabricated?

BC: The next one is a book of essays. It’s a whole different ballgame. It will be back to non-fiction.

1428 Elm: Is there a theme to your essays?

BC: No, it’s a little bit of everything.

1428 Elm: Where did you get the idea for this upcoming book?

BC:  There is a lot worth discussing. There are a lot of topics that are underrepresented.

1428 Elm: Is this effort going to be closer to the days when you used to blog?

BC: Yeah. It might be closer to that. Again, this is a work in progress.
