2) Suspiria

Directed by Luca Guadagnino

Starring: Tilda Swinton, Dakota Johnson, Mia Goth, and Chloe Grace Moretz

Release Date: Nov. 2nd, 2018

Remakes have been tainted with a negative reputation that has spread across the general film community, with something of a mixed justification. Remakes often take the initial source material and twist it into a more “sellable” product for mainstream audiences. Horror classics such as Let the Right One InMartyrs, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre have received the remake treatment to less than favorable reviews, with critics loathing the unnecessary tweaking of what were already complete products. The Italian horror classic, Suspiria, acclaimed for its nightmarish tone and bloody color aesthetic, will be receiving the same treatment come November, leaving fans apprehensive on how things will go down.

Upon its premiere at Venice Film Festival, apprehension seems to have dissipated, as Suspiria has earned some highly positive reviews out of the gate. The film is being praised for its supposed improvement over the original and the performances and direction. Considering that this is being directed by Call Me by Your Name leader, Luca Guadagnino, the praise for the direction is not that surprising. Still, it bodes incredibly well for the film upon its release in November. Now sure, this doesn’t look like something mainstream audiences will take to, given its disturbing premise and not-so-crowd friendly content, but for those looking to wince and squirm for about two hours, Suspiria may be right up your alley.
