“You want my business, you’re going to have to wine and dine me. I’m Captain for chrissakes!”

Gary Green – Titan of Business

Bruce Campbell will be starting his three-episode arc on AMC’s Lodge 49 tonight. Arguably, this series is currently one of the best on television. Mostly because of the ensemble cast and the brilliantly written scripts of showrunner Jim Gavin and his staff. It is a delightfully offbeat look at everyday life in southern California with a side of mysticism.

There isn’t anything like it on the network television landscape and that makes me enjoy it even more. The series centers around the Ancient and Benevolent Order of the Lynx founded by a gent named Harwood Fritz Merrill.

The members of this particular fraternal organization are delightfully quirky but yet surprisingly real. Any of these people you could find at your job and in your neighborhood. You immediately identify with their struggles and their victories.

At the heart of this show are the relationships between the main characters of the lodge and their interactions with one another. An apt description of this program would be Cheers (the beloved 80’s sitcom where everybody knows your name) meets David Lynch’s Twin Peaks.

So, how exactly does Campbell fit into all of this? He portrays the mysterious real estate magnate known only as “Captain.” His character, however, happens to be the Holy Grail for salesman Ernie Fontaine played by the tremendously talented Brent Jennings.

Ernie has been circling Captain since the beginning of the series. He dreams of selling a line of toilets to the business titan for his various properties. Not only would this be a coup for him and elevate his status among his co-workers and boss but it would also get him started on a retirement plan which he desperately needs.

Bruce Campbell -The Man Who Doesn’t Exist

Captain is an elusive and shady character who seems to be surrounded by rumors and innuendo. However, his identity does get revealed in tonight’s episode. We find out his real name, Gary Green. Watch the promo:

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Campbell shed some light on his new alter ego:

“He’s kind of the guy that you go to if you want to get anything done. He can develop anything, he can get around most laws, he’s been at this game a long time, he plays at a very high level. I think he’s like your shopping mall-kind of guy, large projects where it’s not done fully above board, which makes him a very standard guy.”
