2018 has given us a selection of horror movies to die for. From the creepy suspense thriller, The Strangers: Prey at Night, to the most frightening film ever created The Nun, fans of the genre couldn’t be happier. So, let’s take a look at the Top 5 horror movies that make us want to keep the lights on!
Top 5 Horror Movies of 2018
5. The Strangers: Prey at Night
This sadistic horror film takes the cake! The Strangers: Prey at Night is the sequel to 2008’s The Strangers. To be honest, Prey was a bit more suspenseful compared to the original. The movie is about a family who takes a road trip and the 3 psychopaths that will do anything to stop them, even if it means they risk their lives trying to survive.
In order to finally kill this masked crazy trio for good, both of the lead characters Luke and Kinsey have to survive and take them down one by one. What I loved about this film is that a brother and sister joined forces to kill off these maniacs thus exacting revenge for their parents, who sadly died.
Overall, The Strangers: Prey at Night was a suspenseful thriller and I enjoyed every minute of it. If I were to grade this film, I would give it an A- for good effort.
The movie was directed by Johannes Roberts and stars Christina Hendricks and Martin Henderson.

4. Annabelle: Creation

You think The Strangers: Prey at Night was scary, Annabelle: Creation is scarier. In the sequel to Annabelle, we explore the demonic doll’s origins.
From a horrific tragedy resulting in the death of a little girl named Bee, to foster children visiting the Mullins’ home, it all seems to be incredibly terrifying. We learn that Bee’s father was a craftsman who enjoyed making dolls for his daughter because she loved them.
In watching the film’s story unfold we begin to realize that an evil entity entered the home and latched on to the Annabelle doll. One of the foster children named Janice is overly curious about Bee’s former playmate.
Unknowingly she becomes possessed by the demonic spirit that is inhabiting the doll. Through her, it unleashes its unholy terror on the unsuspecting household. This film is one of my favorites.
3. A Quiet Place

A Quiet Place is the perfect movie for anyone who does not know how to be quiet (laugh). The film is about a family who resides in a silent, empty place where they will do anything it takes to survive by not making noise.
The bottom line is this, if you make noise you will be hunted down. The creatures that are listening have sensitive ears and can hear the tiniest of noises, which is something to note.
For example, if I were to knock on a door inside my home, the creatures would hear it and come after me. Unfortunately, this is what happened to the family in the film. I would recommend watching this movie when you need solitude.
2. IT

IT is one of the greatest films in recent memory and the 2017 version did not disappoint. The film is based around 7 children who are tormented by a terrifying clown named Pennywise, in Derry, Maine. In order to overcome their fears, Bill and his friends have to face them head-on while dealing with bullies along the way.
After Bill’s brother’s death, he is on a quest to exact his revenge with help from his fellow friends: Beverly Marsh, Mike Hanlon, Eddie Kaspbrak, Richie Tozier, Stanley Uris, and Ben Hanscom.
As the “Losers Club” continues their search to find IT, they will soon realize that the person they find, will be their worst nightmare. This is the most horrific film I have ever seen and it did Stephen King’s novel justice.
1. The Nun

The Nun is a suspenseful, terrifying and haunting movie. Currently, it is number one at the box office . The film takes place in Romania, where a young nun took her own life in an attempt to save her soul from a demon known as Valak.
Enter Father Burke, a priest with a haunted past and a nun in training, Sister Irene, who are assigned to investigate the abbey. While they are there, they uncover a secret.
It is up to them to confront the evil spirit and send it back to hell. Fear not horror fans, you will definitely be spooked!
And there you have it, the top 5 picks for best horror movies of 2018 (so far) and Halloween hasn’t even been released yet!
