Bruce Campbell: Sorry, folks I’ve had enough blood

Bruce Campbell is currently guesting on AMC’s Lodge 49 as Gary “Captain” Green. Yesterday he stopped by KTLA in Los Angeles to talk about his character and why it was time to hang up the chainsaw.

All About the Lodge

Bruce Campbell appeared on KTLA’s morning show in Los Angeles yesterday to discuss his role in Lodge 49, his desire to be a game show host and why it was time to hang up the chainsaw. For those of you Campbell fans that have been keeping up with the actor, he is currently playing developer, Gary “Captain” Green on AMC’s brilliantly offbeat series, Lodge 49.

Green is a decidedly eccentric character. An enigmatic figure who is known for his “commercial and residential properties in southern California and certain parts of Baja.” However, while his outward image projects a successful businessman, his personal life is in constant turmoil.

Whether he is “laying low” in a wading pool at one of his pieds-à-terre or getting down with the goat people in the hills, Gary Green is one of the best roles that Bruce Campbell has played in a long time.

When asked by one of the KTLA hosts if his “moral grey area” on the show gets a little darker, Campbell responded:

“He’s a survivor. You go to him to get stuff done. But it’s an interesting show in that it is really people kind of wanting to be friends in an odd sort of way. This guy is a big, rich developer but his personal life is absolutely falling apart.”

It’s Like a Bad Check

Naturally, talk turned to his memorable foray on STARZ in Ash vs Evil Dead. Bruce explained that he retired Ash Williams. Which is old news but why he did has quite a bit to do with his recently turning 60.

“You know I didn’t want to do that Star Warsy thing where everyone’s held together with baling wire and rubber bands. It’s time to hang up that chainsaw. It’s time to be a game show host and do respectable work for AMC.”

While this is something that fans of the Evil Dead franchise are still conflicted over the reality is Bruce has no desire to return to the character that started his career as an actor. And that is totally understandable. After all, we got three seasons of AVED which was more time with Ash than a movie would provide.

And there are some people who believe that he will eventually return to the role despite his age but I think that door has closed. According to what he is currently saying, “Sorry, folks. I’ve had enough blood. I’m sorry.” He seems pretty adamant on the subject.

Just Call Me “Wink”

Very much in the forefront of what Bruce Campbell wants to do now that he is selectively retired is concentrate on his game show, Last Fan Standing. For those of you that aren’t familiar with the concept, it is a pop culture trivia challenge where audience members compete against one another to obtain the title of “Last Fan Standing.”

If you think you have what it takes, if you can answer such obscure questions as “How much does Thor’s hammer weigh?” then this is right up your alley. Good news is that Bruce is going on tour with the show starting on Oct. 8.
