During the month of October, there’s something so special about curling up under a blanket and enjoying a jam-packed list of horror and Halloween movies. This October pretty much proves that there’s still a lot to look forward to in the world of thrills and chills. Whether you’re a horror fan or thrillseeker ready to celebrate Halloween, these are some of the upcoming movies, shows and important dates that you should keep on your radar. 

Oct. 4

Creeped Out (Netflix Series)

A masked figure known as “The Curious” follows spooky tales of dark magic, technology and more in this kids anthology series.

Oct. 5

Into the Dark (Hulu Series)

Christmas, Thanksgiving, Veteran’s Day, Valentine’s Day – our favorite holidays get a horrific twist in this horror anthology covering twelve months of terror. 

Z Nation, Season 5 (TV Series)

This season introduces…talking zombies? As these “talkers” look for a place in society, there’s resistance from the humans.

The Walking Dead, Season 9 (TV Series)

After defeating Negan, the united communities struggle with threats outside and inside their group. This season also marks the final season for two of the show’s main actors.

Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween (Film)

The tales of R.L. Stein are back on the big screen as Halloween comes to life in this scary good comedy adventure.

Apostle (Netflix Film)

It’s 1905 and a drifter sets out to rescue his kidnapped sister, but this mission turns dangerous when he encounters a sinister religious cult. 

The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell (Netflix Series)

Wickedly talented baker and artist, Christine McConnell invites you into her home as she creates creepy confections and haunting decor with the help of her unique and fascinating friends. A place “where the strange and unusual are safe and welcome.”

The Haunting of Hill House (Netflix Series)

Inspired by the 1959 novel of the same name, a fractured family relives the memories of their old home and the terrifying events that drove them from it.

Light as a Feather (Hulu Series)

It’s a popular game enjoyed at sleepovers and parties. This time, the seemingly innocent game of “Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board” turns deadly.

Eli Roth’s History of Horror

From horror visionary Eli Roth comes a seven-part look into the horror genre, featuring interviews with some of horror’s greatest legends including Robert Englund, Stephen King, Rob Zombie and Linda Blair.

Oct. 19

Halloween (Film)

Possibly the most anticipated film of the year. Jamie Lee Curtis returns to her iconic role as Laurie Strode who has been waiting for the return of Michael Myers, the boogeyman who murdered her friends 40 years prior. 

Haunted (Netflix Series)

Real people share true stories of terrifying events that continue to haunt them. Coupled with reenactments of these haunting tales, this is a series sure to send chills up your spine and have you sleeping with the lights on. Could this happen to you? 

Lore, Season 2 (Amazon Series)

Some of the most notorious horror stories are rooted in truth. Lore shows us the grisly reality of some of our favorite mythologies.

Oct. 24

The Goldbergs Halloween Episode

Even thought it’s the Halloween episode of The Goldbergs, what it is better known as is the return of Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger. The synopsis is, “Despite Beverly’s wishes, Jackie’s parents allow Adam to watch A Nightmare on Elm Street and a disagreement between the families ensues. But Beverly dreams of facing off with horror icon Freddy Krueger (guest star Robert Englund), which teaches her an important lesson about her son’s relationship with Jackie.

Meanwhile, Erica realizes she’s not as popular as she once was as she starts hanging out at William Penn Academy despite the fact she’s no longer a student there.” If it hasn’t been said already, October 2018 is a momentous month for the world of horror!

Oct. 26

Suspiria (Film)

A remake of the 1977 Dario Argento Italian supernatural horror film. A darkness engulfs world-renowned dance company, consuming the artistic director, an ambitious young dancer and a grieving psychotherapist. 

Castlevania: Season 2 (Netflix Series)

Based on the action-adventure gothic horror video game, a vampire hunter fights to save a city from an army of otherworldly creatures controlled by Dracula.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (Netflix Series)

The beloved Sabrina Spellman gets a dark twist. Sabrina, a half-witch half-mortal teenage girl, has been waiting her whole to turn 16, but when the day arrives, she is forced to choose between the path of light and the path of night.

Channel Zero: The Dream Door (TV Series)

Based on the “creepypasta” short story Hidden Door by Charlotte Bywater, the story follows newlyweds Jillian and Tom, who have each brought secrets into their marriage. When they discover a strange door in their basement, those secrets unleash a darkness on their relationship.

You can also celebrate the Halloween season with Freeform’s now 31 Nights of Halloween and AMC FearFest, as well as a slew of other movies and shows available to stream or enjoy in theaters. Plus, October marks the return of iconic horror magazine Fangoria.
