True to its name, American Horror Story has featured some of the most horrifying episodes in TV history. We rank our top 15…

FX’s American Horror Story has provided fans with annual horrors and scares each season. It all began with season one, Murder House. The season immediately became popular and collected a large fan base, ultimately gathering a cult following after only a few episodes on the air.

After the release of season two, Asylum, the anthology series proved that it was here to stay. There was no such thing as running out of horrors to share and amazing, captivating frightening stories. On the contrary, the seasons soon began to make more sense, overlapping time lines to different seasons, connecting.

It may be an anthology series, as the cast portrays different characters each season, but the crossovers and callbacks to other chapters were treats fans loved! The series is currently airing season 8 and is stronger than ever. In fact, season 8, Apocalypse is easily one of the best in the series.

With the Halloween season, we all want to sit and devour frightening stories, and there’s no better place to search for fears than American Horror Story.

In the following slides, we rank 15 of the most frightening scenes the series has ever produced. Some of them are supernatural, gore-packed, and violent, but there are a few that are horrifying simply because they are too real. The possibility of the realistic scenes happening to us is scarier than the aliens in Asylum. Take “The Coat Hanger” and “Open House,” for example, the chills brought to us by those episodes still haunts fans. And let’s not forget, Twisty the Clown, who some still can’t watch.

Note: Huge spoilers ahead if you are not caught up on the series…
