4. Season 4, American Horror Story: Freak Show, episode 4 “Edward Mordrake (Part 2)”

Why it’s so frightening: Yes, another episode from season four, Freak Show, makes the list. As we stated before, this is the most shocking season yet! Well, perhaps with the exception of the current season, Apocalypse, but even that is a different type of shocking.

Even some fans would tell you that Freak Show took things a bit too far. This may be the reason season four is not many fan’s favorite installment. Two words: Torture porn.

We learn that Else Mars has no legs under the knee, they aren’t real. It doesn’t make much sense with what we had seen her do until then, but we forgive the plot holes. It’s the story of how Elsa lost her legs that’s so shocking.

Elsa has always been chasing fame. She wants to be loved and famous, but be careful what you wish for! She get involved with the wrong people, who drug her, tie Else to a bed, and then film her as men saw off her legs with a crusty chainsaw for good times. It’s a scene that sends chills down your spine. How did you not catch an infection and die?

Up until this very depressing episode, we thought Elsa Mars was simply greedy and evil. Not that this earned her any sympathy, but we still did feel bad for her during this scene.
