American Horror Story: 15 most horrifying AHS episodes
By Sandy C.
3. Season 7, American Horror Story: Cult, episode 6, “Mid-Western Assassin”
Why it’s so frightening: You may have noticed a pattern here, and that’s that the most terrifying American Horror Story episodes are those that don’t involve any ghosts or aliens. What scared us the most are real-life scenarios. Unfortunately, those are situations that are happening all too often nowadays.
This one is so shocking and controversial, it may have crossed the line. Even Ryan Murphy had to pull the video back to make edits to it before it was allowed to air. We’ve seen both the edited version and the one FX ended up releasing and they really aren’t too different. You may remember the horrible mass shooting that took place in Vegas, well, this episode was set to premiere days after. Too soon? Definitely. We’re grateful the cast and crew took the victims and their families into consideration and made edits to Leslie Grossman’s character, Meadow, shooting.
In the episode, Meadow goes to one of Kai’s (Evan Peters) rallies and shoots several of his supporters before injuring him. It turns out to be something Kai masterminded himself, but details didn’t matter, all viewers could focus on was the shooting.
To be fair, we don’t entirely blame American Horror Story for its bad timing. We all knew what we signed up when we decided to watch the show. The series has always gone over the top. Still, doesn’t make it any easier to see this.
