15. Season 6, American Horror Story: Hotel, Episode 12, “Be Our Guest”

Why it’s so frightening: Episode 12 of Hotel sees the death of one of our favorite characters that season, Liz (Denis O’Hare). But it’s bittersweet! Liz has cancer and is going to die anyway, why not die inside the hotel at the hands of Liz’s Cortez family? Okay, not ideal, but it makes sense in the series! Dying at the hotel also means Liz will “live” with her friends and true love? Luckily we don’t get to see too much gore, the Countess steps in just before it can begin and does it swiftly. And, in the end, Liz got a well-deserved happy ending.

Before all this, “Be Our Guest” also shows audiences how much the hotel has changed. The decor used to be stellar, with superb front desk help (Liz and Iris), and the relationship between the ghosts living inside the infamous Cortez hotel is too much fun! But, the initial scenes are only fun for so long before the episode takes a dark twist.

For starters, we get a glimpse of the strange being one can only describe as a naked mole-rat-human. Sarah Paulson plays two characters this season, Crying Sally and ghost whisperer Billie Dean Howard, who realizes she’s messing with more than she can handle by filming a special inside the hotel. Let’s just say it’s best to stay away from the hotel on Devil’s Night, or any night, really. The ghosts who reside there are very defensive. It was a terrifying and wonderful season finale!
