Heather Langenkamp would love to star in new A Nightmare on Elm Street

If a reboot of Wes Craven’s “A Nightmare on Elm Street” was to happen, Heather Langenkamp would love to reprise her role as Nancy Thompson.

It’s been 34 years since we met Nancy Thompson in Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street, and with the recent boom of remakes and reboots in the horror genre, Heather Langenkamp is open to play Nancy once more.

In an interview with EW, Langenkamp joked about waiting for her franchise to be revived, but added that, if a new Nightmare movie was to happen, she would love to be a part of it.

"“I’m sitting here like any other scream queen in Hollywood, hoping that they revive their franchise. I’m not alone! I know of lots of other horror heroines who have this little bit of spring in their step thinking about the chance of perhaps being in [new versions of] the movies that they helped make famous as young people. It’s kind of crazy, but it’s definitely something I would love to do”."

Wes Craven’s slasher classic A Nightmare on Elm Street not only introduced audiences to a new kind of menace — one that will haunt you in your dreams and kill you — but it also gave us a female icon in Nancy Thompson (played by Heather Langenkamp) who battled Freddy Krueger, tricked him, and survived. So yes, she is a big deal.

Langenkamp reprised her role as Nancy in A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors and played both herself and Nancy in Wes Craven’s New Nightmare. Since then, we haven’t seen her back in Elm Street other than in archive footage in Freddy vs Jason and others. Given the current trend of remaking and rebooting horror franchises (most recently John Carpenter’s Halloween), Langenkamp wouldn’t say ‘no’ to playing Nancy once more time.

More from A Nightmare on Elm Street

Langenkamp is not the only Nightmare star that would be up to a return to Elm Street. Freddy Krueger himself, Robert Englund, recently spoke about the possibility of a reboot of A Nightmare on Elm Street, saying that they’re “gonna need a new actor to play Freddy” but he “might have one left” in him.

While that doesn’t exactly mean he would come back as Freddy, we can’t help but hope that, if a Nightmare reboot was to happen and Langenkamp was involved, he would consider putting on the Krueger costume one more time. Who doesn’t want a proper A Nightmare on Elm Street reunion, right?

A Nightmare reboot is pure speculation for now, and it has increased recently thanks to the success of other horror reboots and the anticipation of other reboots in the making, such as Child’s Play. If there was a revival of A Nightmare on Elm Street, how would you add Langenkamp’s Nancy to the mix? Let us know!
