The Holliston Christmas Special is a great way to combat the ho, ho, holidays and all that junk. ‘Tis the season for your resident Grinch here. As someone who just doesn’t fill up with Christmas spirit, I have always found that ghost stories and horror movies are the only things that can get me through this dark and dismal holly jolly hell.
A show that has always cheered me up during the holidays has been Holliston (who just celebrated six year anniversary this year). No matter what mood you’re in, Holliston is a great way to get your horror fix and squeeze some laughs in at the same time. In between their first and second seasons, there was the Holliston Christmas Special, which Ariescope is streaming for free until midnight on Christmas Day!
For those of you that have never seen Holliston, first of all, how dare you and second of all it is one of the best shows on the planet, so you’re welcome. Holliston is the semi-biographical horror sitcom created by Adam Green that follows Adam (Adam Green) and Joe (Joe Lynch), aspiring horror filmmakers and best friends that are just trying to get their movie Shinpads (“When they score, you die!”) off the ground, which is hard to do when you’re broke at a dead end job with a quirky boss like Lance Rockett (Dee Snider). Joe’s girlfriend Laura (Laura Ortiz) is adorable yet slightly maniacal and Adam is hung up on his long-term ex-girlfriend Corri (Corri English).
The Holliston Christmas Special finds the quartet stuck in Adam and Joe’s apartment during a blizzard; the power is out and there’s a deranged killer on the loose called the Christine Cringle Tingler who escaped from the Framingham Women’s State Penitentiary (GODDAMN FRAMINGHAM!!). As they sit and play Wine, they reminisce about how they all met each other and it gets Adam and Corri thinking about their past.
I LOVED this episode. Not only is it longer than most of the regular shows, but it has a different feel too. While it does include the standard silly horror comedy like the others, it also has some hardcore feels too.
I laughed, I teared up, I laughed some more: it was a great time. So, if you need something amazing to watch this Christmas, head on over to Ariescope and check out the Holliston Christmas Special for free while you still can. I promise it’s worth it.
