Blunt would be the number one in almost any other horror year to date. However, Toni Collette delivers one of the five greatest performances in the history of the genre in Hereditary. In a role that is layered with anger, resentment, guilt, and pain, Collette delivers one for the ages in the most disturbing movie of the year.

What makes Collette so good is the sheer ferocity and intensity present in every second on screen. Even in moments that build tension, you see her like a lion ready to eat the audience alive. The actress utilizes her rubber face to perfection, contorting it in ways you never thought humanly possible before.

Yet the dramatic moments at the grief counseling sessions, seances, and funerals are what sell the film. She plays off every character, including Wolff, Gabriel Byrne, Ann Dowd, and Milly Shapiro to perfection. It is an elastic display from the actress, and time after time, you will marvel at the virtuoso performance on display.
