My Bloody Valentine (1981)

My Bloody Valentine is the quintessential Valentine’s Day horror movie. I mean, it literally has Valentine IN the title. There was a remake to this film, which will also appear on the list, but we will talk more about that one later.

This fun, blood-covered fare centers on a group of young adults that are planning to have a Valentine’s Day party in a town called Valentine Bluffs. There is a legend that says anyone who celebrates Valentine’s Day will die because years earlier, a group of miners were trapped and only one survived who went on a killing spree to those he deemed responsible after escaping from a mental institution. Years later when the party planning is going on, people start dying and everyone thinks that Harry Warden is back for more blood.

This version of the film was written by Stephen A. Miller and John Beaird and directed by George Mihalka. It stars Lori Hallier, Neil Affleck, Paul Kelman, and Peter Cowper. This is a great and gory whodunnit that differs from the remake. This is a great one for those that may not be the biggest fans of the holiday but still want something festive. And, this movie is just another reason why it is better to just spend Valentine’s Day inside watching scary movies.
