What Lies Beneath (2000)

This film is one to definitely watch with your significant other to show them the dangers of cheating. While most Valentine’s Day horror or love-centered horror gravitates more toward the slasher genre, I really love that this is a big puzzle with a heavy dose of the paranormal.

Rather than having that campy early 2000’s horror movie feel, What Lies Beneath has a more mature late 90’s feeling that is reminiscent of Stir of Echoes. It stars Michelle Pfeiffer and Harrison Ford and the film was directed by Robert Zemeckis.

Harrison Ford is a professor who is married to Pfeiffer, a retired musician who was in a serious car accident. After their daughter leaves, the nest is empty and it is just the two of them. After she begins to hear voices and experience weird occurrences, her husband thinks she is suffering side effects of the accident but she is convinced she is being haunted.

When she digs deeper into her experiences, she finds that there really is a monster in her house. This film is a slow burner but has an eerie story-line. The performances of Ford and Pfeiffer are stellar and it’s a great video to creep your partner out with.
