Bleeding Heart: Set the mood with slasher films on Valentine’s Day

It’s the season of romance and if you and your beau are fans of horror films then why not spend your Valentine’s Day with classic slashers icons such as Leatherface or Chucky?

With January coming to a close, it’s time to start planning your February movie binges. Celebrate the month of romance by celebrating  your love of horror!

To make it easier for you to plan your marathons, I’ve compiled a list of all the horror movies you can expect to see on premium cable (HBO, Starz, and Showtime) beginning Feb. 1 and continuing throughout the month!

02/1:

28 Days Later (2002): A classic zombie film about a “rage” virus that turns the infected into mindless creatures driven only by their need to feed and destroy. Cillian Murphy stars as a bike messenger who awakens in a deserted city after a month in a coma and must fight to survive as he learns about the fatal outbreak. Available on Starz.

Frankenweenie (2012): If you want something scary to watch with your kids check out this Tim Burton film about a young Victor Frankenstein who brings his dog back to life in his science laboratory. Available on Starz.

Mimic I-III (1997-2003): This franchise was stared by one of the modern-day masters of horror, Guillermo Del Toro. It’s about a plague of cockroaches infecting children with a deadly disease. Scientists scramble to find a way to eliminate them but in the process they create a bug that can mimic human beings. Available on Starz.

Shaun Of The Dead (2004): One of the most popular horror-comedy films of all time that stars Simon Pegg as a lethargic ordinary man who suddenly wakes up in a world where zombies exist and the apocalypse is nigh. Available on Starz.

Sorority Row (2009): A fun slasher film about a group of sorority girls covering up a deadly secret and the person who is hellbent on making them pay for it. Available on Showtime.

02/08:

The Roommate (2011): Hosting a bevy of notable CW stars like Leighton Meester, Nina Dobrev, Cam Gigandet, Aly Michalka, and Danneel Ackles, The Roommate is a fun teen scream and a modern-day reimagining of Single White Female. Available on Starz.

The Andromeda Strain (1970): Based on a novel by Michael Crichton (the author of Jurassic Park), Andromeda Strain is about an extraterrestrial organism carried into the United States on a crashed satellite and the thrilling story about a group of scientists in a rush to stop it before it takes on a life of its own. Available on Starz.

Tales From The Darkside: The Movie (1990): An early horror anthology in which a young boy tells three horror stories in order to stall a witch who intends to eat him. Steve Buscemi, Christian Slater, Matthew Lawrence, Debbie Harry, and Julianne Moore star. Available on Starz.

02/15:

Bride of Chucky (1998): Chucky is resurrected by his ex-girlfriend who soon finds her soul transferred into a bride doll. The duo then goes on a murderous rampage to find an amulet that can restore them to their human forms. Available on Starz.

Bug (1975): Another movie abut cockroaches! Bug is about a massive earthquake that unleashes a horde of mutant cockroaches into the world and how one scientist uses that mutation to create a hyper intelligent species of bug. Available on Starz.

Seed of Chucky (2004): Seed of Chucky is a follow up to Bride of Chucky and follows the story of Chucky and his bride’s offspring who doesn’t have the same thirst for blood as his father. Available on Starz.

Visions (2015): A young pregnant woman begins to experience terrible visions after moving to a vineyard. Prior to her move she was involved in a car accident that resulted in a death of a child and has been haunted ever since. Isla Fisher, Eva Longoria, Gillian Jacobs, and Jim Parsons star. Available on Starz.

02/21:

Haunter (2013): Starring Abigail Breslin, Haunter is about the ghost of a young girl stuck in a time loop of the day she and her family were murdered as she tries to prevent another girl from falling victim to her same fate. Available on Showtime.

02/22:

Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III (1990): In Leatherface’s third outing, a young couple is terrorized by the serial killer. Viggo Mortensen stars as a hitchhiker named Tex. Available on Starz.

02/23:

Slender Man (2018): As a joke, a group of teenage girls try to conjure Slender Man after reading the lore about him on the dark recesses of the internet, but when of them vanishes they’re forced to confront the legend head-on. Available on Starz.
