Sam Raimi: Fans band together to make Spider-Man 4 film
Sam Raimi is the latest director to inspire a fan film. High Mountain Studios is looking to revive Spiderman 4 via Kickstarter and they need your help!
Sam Raimi is not your typical director. He is pretty much the king of genre films or as his close friend, Bruce Campbell calls him, “The Master.” In 2002, he stepped into the Spider-verse and made three successful films featuring the Marvel hero.
Seventeen years later, some fans still argue that he captured the true essence of the beloved comic book character as opposed to the latest crop of films in the franchise starring Tom Holland. Spider-Man 3 is perhaps the most uneven of his efforts due to the fact that there were some behind the scenes struggles concerning the inclusion of Venom.
As Sam would later admit in an interview with Screen Rant:
"“It’s a movie that just didn’t work very well. I tried to make it work, but I didn’t really believe in all the characters, so that couldn’t be hidden from people who loved Spider-Man.”"
Despite everything that went down, Raimi was on board to direct Spider-Man 4. However, that production fell through much to the chagrin of fans everywhere. Especially those that had hoped for Campbell to appear as Mysterio.
In 2017, Jeffrey Henderson who was working on storyboards for the movie revealed several scenes from the proposed production. In his words:
"“It would’ve been one absolutely kick ass movie. Seriously. We were working on some crazy- cool stuff, because everyone, from top to bottom, felt that Spidey 3 was a bit of a ‘missed opportunity.”"
We can see that not only was Mysterio one of the villains in Spider-Man 4 but so was Vulture.

According to Geek Tyrant, some fans have banded together to make a fan film based on Raimi’s vision for Spider-Man 4.
Harley Pettus and Bryn C. Jones of High Mountain Studios have created a Kickstarter campaign to fund their dreams of finishing Sam Raimi’s film utilizing his storyboards. Their goal is $10,000 which is extremely low-budget for a potentially FX laden production.
High Mountain Studios’ version would include not only Vulture but Lizard, Kingpin and Black Cat. Sadly, no Mysterio. They fully intend to put their own spin on it since it is a fan film after all.
Recently, there has been a surge in high quality fan made efforts with Vader (Star Wars) and Axanar (Star Trek) so there is definitely an appetite for this type of venture. Check out what they have in store for Spidey in the video below:
At 1428 Elm, we applaud them for being very ambitious and wanting to pick up where Sam Raimi left off. They will have some big shoes to fill but they seem up for the challenge. We wish them success in their endeavors.
