Quentin Tarantino: Retro vibe of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood poster
Quentin Tarantino’s latest epic surrounding the 1969 Manson Family murders, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood gets a throwback poster featuring a rugged looking Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio.
Quentin Tarantino – The Great “Borrower”
Quentin Tarantino is possibly one of the most innovative storytellers of our time. I don’t make that statement flippantly. He is an ardent lover of popular culture and film making in particular. This is why he purchased the New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles to save the theater.
In the past, he has been accused of “borrowing” from other artist’s works. The director unabashedly admits this stating in Empire magazine via Variety:
"“I steal from every single movie ever made. If my work has anything, it’s that I’m taking this from this and that from that and mixing them together.”"
That being said, his fans are anxiously awaiting the debut of his latest opus, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The film has been talked about since last year and the buzz surrounding it is deafening. Set in 1969, it is the tale of a star on the downside of his career, Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his pal and longtime stunt double, Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) as they try to keep up with the new, free spirited atmosphere in Hollywood.
What makes this Tarantino endeavor ambitious is not only are we focusing on the story of Dalton and Booth but that is set against the backdrop of the demise of the studio system and the horrific Manson Family murders of Sharon Tate and her friends. But that is typical QT style.
Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill volumes 1 & 2, Reservoir Dogs all of these vehicles have multiple plots that intersect with one another at critical junctures. Same goes for his series of westerns with Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight.
Quentin Tarantino- Retro Style
Yesterday, his fans got a real treat when the poster for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was unveiled courtesy of Deadline. Pitt and DiCaprio are casually posed looking very thoughtful and well, rugged. The picture reminds me of a behind the scenes publicity still from the 60’s with Redford and Newman in a “candid” moment on some shoot.
Here it is. See if you get the same vibe.
