4. Home Before Dark

Another true crime saga, this time the focal point is a young girl. According to the byline this series is based on the real-life account of Hilde Lysiak. The story takes place in a lakeside town where a cold case suddenly gets resurrected.

Apparently, there are secrets that the residents have kept and even the young girl’s father (Jim Sturgess) doesn’t want to remember the past. Some things are better left buried.

Jon M. Chu, the director behind the critically acclaimed Crazy Rich Asians and Now You See Me 2 is set to helm this thriller. He also has Now You See Me 3 in the works that was just announced.

No stranger to action, since he also has G.I. Joe: Retaliation under his belt, Chu is versatile enough to combine that with compelling storytelling. Despite the Now You See Me franchise being in constant motion, at the heart of it was the relationships between the characters and that is why their con game was so effective.

Despite the fact that he doesn’t have anything resembling true crime on his resume, the director is experienced in various genres so he should definitely have no trouble with this effort. Another series that could draw reality TV junkies to the yard.

3. For All Mankind

Science fiction fans rejoice! Your king, Ronald D. Moore is back and Apple TV + has him. This time with an 11-episode series focusing on the hypothetical question, what if the space race was still taking place?

It is good to see Moore return to this type of series. He has been at the helm of Starz Outlander since 2014. His cast list is impressive with such talent as Michael Harney from Project Blue Book, Wallace Langham of CSI and The Larry Sanders Show and Rebecca Wisocky best known for her role in Devious Maids on Lifetime.

IMDb is listing a few episode titles but no information. For All Mankind is listed in pre-production. We know that Apple intends on premiering their service in the fall so maybe this show will be forthcoming later in the year.

If you look closely at the trailer that was released you can catch glimpses of the production. Ronald is such a huge talent that we can only hope that the streaming service doesn’t skimp on the budget so fans can get the kind of production value that Battlestar Galactica had.

Will there be alien lifeforms or will it just concentrate on the tension between our country and the Russians? I guess we will just have to wait to find out.
