If you’re a horror fan looking for some new movies to watch and a subscriber to HBO, you’re in luck. The cable service has a great line-up for April 2019.

There are tons of streaming services out there in this day and age when binge watching is all the rage. HBO is still one of the superior premium cable service providers and if you’re a member and have the HBO GO or HBO Now app, then you’ll be all set to watch some of these awesome horror selections next month!

The Nun (2018)

In the latest addition to The Conjuring universe, The Nun is set in 20th century Romania where an ancient demon has been unleashed. The film was released last year and became a box office success. With a story by James Wan and the leading actress, Taissa Farmiga, related to The Conjuring star, Vera Farmiga, it’s no wonder the film was so popular.

The film follows Sister Irene (Farmiga) and Father Burke (Demián Bichir) when they are called to investigate the death of a nun at the Saint Cartha monastery in Romania. There, they meet up with a local named Frenchie (Jonas Bloquet) who found the woman’s body, hanging from the rafters outside the building.

The Nun introduces the official beginning of franchise villain, Valek, and takes place years before Ed and Lorraine Warren’s own encounter with the demon. If you missed your chance to see it last year then now is the time to catch up! It will be available to stream on HBO starting April 6th.

Splice (2009)

More from 1428 Elm

Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley starred in this twisted, science fiction horror film from 2009. It is an incredibly disturbing film about about genetic mutation and DNA experimentation. There are a couple of scenes from Splice I still get the shivers from thinking about. If you’re a fan of body horror and extremely dark subject matter, then this is a film you won’t want to miss.

Two genetic engineers, Clive (Brody) and Elsa (Polley) are iconoclasts in the field of science, they’re on the cover of magazines and often trying to pick between one lucrative business opportunity or another. Their claim to fame is the experimentation with animal DNA but their next project is to add human DNA into the mix.

They carry out their research in secret. Eventually, a hybrid creature is created, but when it begins showing signs of rapid aging and advanced intelligence, it becomes apparent Clive and Elsa may no longer be in control.  It will be available to stream on HBO starting April 1st.

The Green Inferno (2015)

Eli Roth fans should be excited to see this movie on HBO’s upcoming roster. It’s been called Roth’s love letter to the old cannibal films like the controversial and infamous, Cannibal Holocaust. The film is about a group of students who journey to the Amazon rainforest to protest a logging company intending to cause large-scale deforestation.

It stars Lorenza Izzo as Justine, the leader of the expedition. The students also capture live streams of the footage to help raise awareness for their cause. But things go amiss when they capture the attention of the local police force and almost get killed in a militia attack.

From there, things go way off-course and the students get caught by a cannibalistic group of rainforest locals. It’s an insane gorefest from the master of torture and gore himself. Certainly not a movie for the faint of heart. It will be available to stream on HBO starting April 1st.
