Myers Monday: Legend of the long lost Halloween 5 footage

Myers Monday is going back the ’80s, when seasons drew long and Michael Myers got his revenge. Let’s unearth the infamous Halloween 5 footage…

Ravenous Revenge

After returning to wreak havoc in 1988, the very next year sees Michael Myers get his revenge. With Jamie Lloyd hitting the mute button, and an increasingly crazed Dr. Loomis losing his mind, the Boogeyman reemerges from cold, deeply dark, waters for more blood. And the rest, as they say in Haddonfield, is history…

The Shape of Halloween 5

In the years since hitting silver screens, Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers has build an interesting, yet ultimately disastrous, legacy. While the scary sequel is arguably the worst in the original run, including 2002’s bizarre Halloween Resurrection, it’s almost built a base for being so terrible. At least that’s what I’m hoping is happening to people who actually like this movie. But I digress.

Regardless of your stance, lost footage from the fourth Halloween has been the subject of conversation for years. It was mostly a  game for imaginations, horror heads dreaming up scenarios like sports fans with fantasy drafts. That was until HalloweenMovies made headway in the possible cinematic discovery. Having more Michael Myers from the 1989 sequel was suddenly a realistic possibility.

A New Dawn For Death

More from Halloween

What’s been unearthed, according to the official Boogeyman site, is the infamous alternate opening. With Sheriff Meeker blasting Myers into a near water stream, a hurt Michael is captured by “Dr. Death.” A year after being involved in dark rituals with the mad doctor, Michael springs back to life and killing his new “master” for his troubles. It’s sounds strange to say the least, but at least it’s more Shape. Don Shanks, who played Myers in the film, let fans know all about it recently. But Smith’s Grove Inmates, that’s not all….

Operation Don Shanks

In the same stellar multi-part interview, Shanks revealed another scene the hunt is on for. Apparently, Michael Myers was supposed to massacre a whole SWAT team before reappearing at the Myers house for the final Loomis showdown. In what can only be overheard in the finished film, we were actually supposed to see many more deaths unfold. The stuntman described a multitude of breaks and carnage — I freaking can’t wait to see that footage.

As for what’s all in store for fans? The search is still on the way. In the meantime, just keep handing out candy as this legend is far from over.

This has been another edition of Myers Monday. We’ll see you next week in Haddonfield.
