Praise Satan for season 2 of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
By Devin Shea
After what seemed like a forever wait, we finally got to watch Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Season 2 and it is the best yet.
I do not exaggerate when I say that I have been waiting for season 2 of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina since I binged the first season in a day. Forgive me for saying this but there is truly something magical about this show. It somehow makes the darkness so enticing and oddly normalized.
Less than a year after its premier, we got more of the story. Despite the fact that reviews are mixed, I am an even bigger fan now. Buckle up, it’s going to be a dark ride. Also… there will be some spoilers so, be mindful of that. Praise Satan and aperi ianuam!
The second season picks up where the first left off. Sabrina has signed the Book of the Beast and is considerably cooler. She and Harvey are no longer an item and he seems to be moving on just fine.
Sabrina has Nick Scratch and Zelda is buddy buddy with Father Blackwood while he is unaware she has hidden his daughter away. Ambrose is back in with the Academy of Unseen Arts and Lilith keeps plotting as a puppet of the Dark Lord. Basically, all is well. Sabrina starts going to the Academy full time and begins to stir up trouble in the misogynistic school’s hierarchy, which snowballs into a shocking revelation about Sabrina’s family and her purpose.

If you thought the first season of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was dark, then this season is darker. I wasn’t expecting it to get as heavy as it did but I am not complaining. Touching on the cinematography of this season vs the last season, season two is much more simple in terms of its filming style. Gone are the over-complicated artistic shots for a far more effective and still unsettling style.
The first season had a more lighthearted approach to dark magic but season two delves into its darker, murkier depths. There is a lot more death, betrayal, revenge and open sexuality (you’ll wonder were you can get your own incubus demon). I did enjoy their addition of Lupercalia, an ancient purification and fertility festival around the same time as Valentine’s Day. Disability as well as the struggles of being trans are also addressed.

We also saw a different side of Lilith. As the hand of Lucifer, she did his bidding to put Sabrina on his path. However, we got the chance to see the woman she was before she met him and we even catch a glimpse of Lucifer in his true form before the time on earth mutated him into the goat-man he became. Different sides of Father Blackwell, Ambrose, Hilda and Sabrina are also explored.
All that this season of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina did was make me even more excited for the next season because it left a HUGE loose end that could change the feeling of the entire show. While I won’t spoil it for you if you haven’t watched, I loved the dark reaches the second season of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina stretched itself to and the lighthearted moments that it ended with.
I cannot recommend this show enough and I count down the days until we catch up with the cast again. You can see the first two seasons of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina streaming now on Netflix.
