Get ready for Pennywise’s return to Derry, as the first trailer for IT: Chapter 2 will finally drop this week.
Believe it or not, almost two years have passed since the release of Andy Muschietti’s IT, which took a new generation of horror fans (and those who were traumatized by the miniseries back in the 90s) to the fictional town of Derry, Maine, where they met the good ol’ “Losers’ Club”… and an evil force that hides in the sewers.
Because there’s a lot to cover, IT was divided in two parts, the first one set in 1989 (unlike the novel, which is set in the 50s) and focusing on the group of kids self-named “The Losers Club”, and the second one set in 2018 (in the novel, the 80s), following the adult versions of the Losers. Although we know who’s playing who in this second part, and a few set pics have made their way to the internet, we haven’t got a proper look at the cast in full characters. Luckily, we won’t have to wait longer.
After producer Barbara Muschietti assured fans on Instagram that the trailer would arrive soon (“but how soon?!” we all shouted), a date has now been revealed… sort of. At least for those in Times Square. Artist Shaun Watson shared a video on Instagram (as well as some pics) of a teaser shown in Times Square that confirms the trailer will drop on Thursday, May 9.
Although neither Warner nor Andy or Barbara Muschietti have shared the news yet, fans are all set for this trailer release, with the video already making the rounds on Twitter (hat tip to Finn Wolfhard updates). The teaser shows no footage, but sets the vibe quite well, with a black background, blood-red lettering, and a bunch of red balloons floating. We all float here, don’t you ever forget.
As it usually happens in these situations, we can expect Warner, the Muschiettis, or all of them, to share the news in the coming hours. Who knows, maybe they have a different teaser under their sleeves. Remember the one we got before the full trailer for the first IT? Hope dies last!
IT: Chapter 2, directed by Andy Muschietti, and starring James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, Jay Ryan, Bill Hader, Isaiah Mustafa, James Ransone, and Andy Bean as the adult Losers, with Bill Skarsgård reprising his role as Pennywise, will be released on Sept. 6.
