Is Zac Efron joining the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy 3?
By Mads Lennon
In light of his recent critical acclaim playing Ted Bundy in a Netflix film, rumor has it Zac Efron may be joining James Gunn’s next Guardians movie.
Is it possible that Ted Bundy might be joining the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy 3? Rumors about Zac Efron starring in a superhero movie have been swirling for years. There was a time when the idea of Efron as Shazam was being passed around.
As one of the bulkiest men in Hollywood, and a teen heartthrob, it’s a little surprising he hasn’t shown up in the DC or Marvel cinematic universe yet. But maybe the right role hasn’t come along, until now.

With Avengers: Endgame wrapped, Marvel is beginning to look ahead to its next phase of films. James Gunn, the visionary director behind the first two Guardians of the Galaxy films, has been re-hired by Disney to direct the third in the trilogy.
Thus far, plot details have been extremely scarce. We probably won’t know what the third film will be about for a while still due to Gunn’s involvement with DC’s Suicide Squad sequel.
So Where Does Efron Fit into This?
According to Cosmic Book News, Zac Efron is rumored to have shown interest in portraying Adam Warlock in the film, should he be introduced.
Warlock was created by the High Evolutionary in his goal to create a super race of human beings. He was something of a Messiah-like character in the comics. His history has had him as both villain and hero. His morals are decidedly grey and depend solely on his objectives.
Adam Warlock has ties to Thanos, so it is surprising we haven’t seen him show up in the universe yet, but that doesn’t mean he won’t play a part in the franchise’s future.
Efron has proven himself capable of playing egomaniacs with his recent stirring and insidious turn as serial killer Ted Bundy. I think he would be more than capable of pulling off this role.
However, at the moment it’s far too early to tell what is real and what is simply a rumor. Whispers about Efron joining the MCU have been around for years and not yet come to fruition. This rumor could be the time it’s true, or it could just be another baseless theory.
Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile is streaming now on Netflix.
