The Robert Englund Story: New documentary goes beyond Elm Street
A new documentary focusing on Robert Englund’s career will explore his time on Elm Street and beyond.
Robert Englund is a horror icon. The time has come for him to get the documentary treatment.
We all love documentaries, right? Especially those that take us behind-the-scenes of some of our favorite movies and/or explore the careers of our favorite actors.
It’s even more special when it’s a film centering on the horror genre, mostly because the genre doesn’t get enough love. That said, how about one exploring the veteran actor’s career?
Robert Englund Gets His Due
Englund has a special place in the hearts of all horror fans thanks to his performance as slasher Freddy Krueger in the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, but his career (both in the horror genre and outside of it) goes beyond Elm Street, and that’s what an upcoming documentary will focus on.
Titled ICON: The Robert Englund Story, this documentary from the makers of Pennywise: The Story of IT will celebrate the works of Robert Englund, from his first roles through his breakout role as Freddy Krueger and what came next. The project will include interviews with Englund himself as well as many cast and crew members from Elm Street and other movies.

According to the documentary’s official Facebook page, ICON is “a celebration of the horror genre classics from the 1980s to present day”, and will also explore other horror legends like Doug Bradley, Kane Hodder, Nick Castle, Brad Dourif, Tony Todd, and more. This project has my full attention, no doubt.
Englund’s career in the horror genre includes some (maybe) not so well-known titles such as Dead & Buried and Tobe Hooper’s Eaten Alive, and among his post-Elm Street work we can find movies like The Phantom of the Opera and The Mangler. He has also directed two horror movies: 976-EVIL and Killer Pad.
Among his most recent works are the horror thriller Nightworld, the documentary Nightmares in the Makeup Chair (which featured his return to the Freddy Krueger makeup), and is currently filming another horror movie titled Abruptio. Englund is pretty much unstoppable and we love it. Can you imagine a world without him? Impossible.
ICON: The Robert Englund Story will be fan funded and the Indiegogo campaign for it will launch on June 1st and will be open for 30 days. If you would like to help make this a reality, please consider donating.
