1. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (August 9)

I bet you thought that IT Chapter 2 was going to make the top of the list. Well, you would be so wrong.

There is one major reason that Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is the most anticipated summer horror movie of 2019: nostalgia, pure and simple.

If you are in your late 20’s to 30’s, you read the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark series as a child. Its artwork kept you awake at night (it still might) and you had all three books and/or the hardcover collection book.

Most of the time, horror stories that last are the nightmares that were created for adults. However, Scary Stories was made for kids and still affects us as adults making it something special.

This film screenplay is partially written by the incomparable Guillermo del Toro and I can’t think of a better writer to handle these stories. It is being directed by André Øvredal (The Autopsy of Jane Doe) which is VERY exciting. As the date creeps closer, more trailers emerge showing more snippets of the stories that terrified us as children. This will be one to add to the shelves for the collection once it hits Blu-ray, that is if you can stomach the spider story.
