Honorable Mention: The New Mutants

Editor’s Note: 20th Century FOX has since removed The New Mutants from its originally planned August 2, 2019 release date and bumped the film to early 2020. As a result, the film will no longer release this summer as originally expected.

I  have never much been into mutants and by mutants I mean X-Men. I like the idea of being born with powers and learning how to accept who you are but the stories just never had enough scariness to me. However, it looks like Josh Boone finally took care of that issue for me with the upcoming summer horror release of the Marvel film, The New Mutants.

This movie follows five young mutants who are just realizing they have powers and what comes with that. But if that wasn’t enough stress on a teenager, they are trapped in a secret research facility and must fight their way out as they discover their powers and come to terms with what they have done in their past.

I think what most excites me about The New Mutants is that is stars Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams. After her badass role as Arya Stark, I cannot wait to see her stretch her wings and head in a new direction and I am super happy she chose this project.  If you are like me and never really got into the comic book life, worry not because this still looks amazing!
