Child’s Play and the 15 best horror movies coming this summer
By Devin Shea
14. Nightmare Cinema (June 21)
The first anticipated summer horror movie on this list makes me think of Chillerama if Chillerama was trying to be a serious film.
Nightmare Cinema is an anthology film with multiple writers and directors. The story outside of the anthologies surrounds a haunted theater run by The Projectionist, played by Mickey Rourke. (I’m sorry but if it’s run by someone JUST called The Projectionist, just go to an Alamo Drafthouse.) When five strangers come together at said haunted theater, five short films play which begin to tell their secrets and show them their fears.
While that seems like a fun and immersive experience, it makes me wonder how it turns out for the audience members. This is the only anthology film on the list and I quite love anthologies. Each story has its own style and feel and since they are short films, they are like little fun-size bites of horror that last just long enough.
Based on the images released so far, the style of this film looks gorgeous, like a horror fantasy. But we will have to talk about Mickey Rourke’s outfit in this film. It’s a little much for a film projectionist but, then again, who am I to judge his deep V.
