12. Head Count (June 14)

Have you ever wondered what The Thing would be like if instead of a bearded team in Antarctica the film centered around a bunch of teenagers in the desert? Neither have I, but I can say that I am intrigued by the concept.

I have never understood why people go into the desert. Yeah, the desert is beautiful and mysterious, but it’s also wicked deadly and there are scorpions and stuff. I usually avoid those places. Anywhere that I can literally find a snake in my boot is usually a place I stay away from, unless there are aliens and then I can understand. I don’t think aliens are involved in this instance so there is no excuse for them to be out there, but I digress.

Head Count is about young people, teenagers in their infinite wisdom, that go out into the Joshua Tree desert, summon a supernatural baddie that can mimic the appearance of whoever it wants to and separates them in to smaller groups. It won’t leave them alone until they do a ritual for it that obviously won’t end well. But does anything in the desert end well for anybody?

Scorpions and boot snakes are the least of these teens’ worries. They should have just gone to a beach if they wanted sand everywhere.
