4. The Real Amityville Horror (2005)

While this film isn’t technically a horror movie, it is definitely part of the Amityville Horror family. Where the horror movies focus on the haunting of the Lutz family and the events that occurred after the massacre, this documentary takes a look into events that led to the deaths of six innocent people, including four children in the home.

There are so many theories as to why Ronald DeFeo, Jr. did what he did and this film looks into those. The strangest occurrence they look into is to why a gun that is heard hundreds and hundreds of feet away was neither heard by the family before their deaths or the neighbors right next to the house. No one heard these people die and that is a true mystery that they tackle.

This documentary was directed by Craig Collinson and Nick Freand Jones. It is narrated by Zoe Wanamaker and features interviews and footage of Ronald DeFeo, Laura DiDio, Hans Holzer, Rufus Ireland, George Lutz, Joel Martin and Rick Moran.

This video also looks into what occurred on the other side of the coin during the press frenzy after the Lutz family came forward with their story. This video is available on YouTube currently under the fair use Copyright Act of 1976 and is available to watch in full. I enjoy the depth of information that this documentary has to offer.
