13. Amityville No Escape (2016)

I can’t say that this film is anything extraordinary. It doesn’t even really have much to do with the story of Amityville and seems to try and ride the coattails of the name, but there is a reason that it is one this list…they tried something different.

This is the only film on our Amityville Horror list to be a found footage film and I think that found footage doesn’t get the love that it deserves. I understand that people think it’s an easy way to get out of getting good shots, because if it’s found footage, it doesn’t NEED great camera work, which isn’t the truth but I digress.

A group of young people  (college students to be precise, because of course it is) head into the woods near the house in Amityville to explore and better understand the concept of fear and they end up with more than they bargained for. Not judging the movie by its extremely un-scary cover, I do appreciate that they tried. The acting definitely isn’t the worst that I’ve ever seen, even though the effects are meh. The look of it is pretty good considering it is a low-budget, found footage film. Is this the best movie that I have ever seen? No, but it definitely isn’t the worst.
