10. Amityville: The Evil Escapes (1989)

You would think that the Amityville Horror wouldn’t be the Amityville Horror without Amityville, right? Is that just me? But, someone snagged Sandor Stern, the original screenwriter of the first film, and said, “Let’s take the evil to California!” Noooot really the scariest concept I have ever heard, but hell, it’s the 80’s so why not?

The beginning of this film sees the Amityville house being exorcised by priests, but just barely. Then there is the yard sale. The house may have been exorcised of the demons but the ugly lamp is still infested and it’s heading to sunny California with an old lady to give to her widowed daughter.

Once the lamp is in the home, the spooky stuff starts and it manifests itself to the young girl in the house in the form of her deceased father and begins to manipulate her. Alongside that, all of the house’s electronics begin to do haywire.

As I said before, Sandor Stern returns to write and direct. It stars Patty Duke as Nancy Evans, Jane Wyatt as Alice Leacock, Fredric Lehne as Father Kibbler, Lou Hancock as Peggy, Brandy Gold as Jessica Evans and Zoe Trilling as Amanda Evans. If you need an Amityville Horror film that is a little silly, a little sad and a whole lot of west coast, than this one is for you.
