Evil Dead, It and the 15 greatest horror movie remakes of all-time

8. Silent House (2011)
Elizabeth Olsen is best-known for playing Wanda Maximoff in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and outside of the superhero genre, Olsen is an established dramatic actress. She has proved herself as a capable dramatic lead in films like Martha Marcy May Marlene and the more recent Facebook Watch series, Sorry For Your Loss.
But a performance of hers that often goes overlooked is in the psychological thriller, Silent House. The film is a remake of the 2010 Uruguayan film, La casa muda. Olsen’s character, Sarah, is staying at a family owned home in the countryside that is in dire need of renovations.
What is meant to be a cordial visit with her father and uncle becomes a nightmare as Sarah becomes trapped inside the house. With no electricity, Sarah is prey to the darkness and to strange people who have been living in the basement.
Olsen’s performance is so exemplary because she is on-camera for the entire film. Silent House was shot in one single, uninterrupted, take, making it a unique horror experience for genre fans. It takes a strong actress to be able to remain in the moment for a take while maintaining the same level of intensity throughout.
Silent House makes a strong case for why horror movies should be revisited after a few years. It didn’t receive much critical praise when it was first released, but it’s a movie I feel stands the test of time.
