3. Vermont – East Mountain Radar Base (1961)

The North Concord Air Force Base opened in 1956. It was located on East Mountain in Vermont. As part of the modus operandi of most of the top 5 states for UFO sightings, this area is extremely remote.

The reason for its location was to monitor Soviet Union activity during the Cold War. If the United States was going to be attacked, this base would be among the first to alert the appropriate parties so that aircraft could be assembled to intercept threats.

In 1961, a UFO hovered over NCAFB for 18 minutes. There was later conjecture since Betty and Barney Hill were abducted not too far away from the mountain that perhaps the UAP was the same one. Two years later, operations were shut down and abandoned.
