Ghostbusters 2020: Ernie Hudson hypes the upcoming movie

Both new and old characters are preparing for the comeback of Ghostbusters, and one of the original members of the squad says it will give fans what they’ve been looking for.

With all the remakes and reboots that are happening in the film industry, it’s easy to lose track or even believe some of these are truly happening – after all, many projects don’t go past pre-production sometimes. However, Ghostbusters fans can be sure that the franchise is still alive and well, and that a new movie is on its way.

Back in January, a new Ghostbusters movie, now titled Ghostbusters 2020, was announced, with Jason Reitman as director and Ivan Reitman as producer. The movie will be a direct sequel to Ghostbusters II, ignoring Paul Feig’s 2016 reboot. This has sparked some controversy, but according to an original member of the squad, we have nothing to worry about.

Ernie Hudson told Countdown City Geekcast at Celebrity Fan Fest (via Comicbook) that this new movie will be “more in line” with the original one and will give fans what they’ve been looking for (whatever that might be, let’s be real). Hudson said:

"“So as we move into the future, I’m just really excited that he’s gonna give the fans what they’ve been looking for. I think the last movie with the ladies, it was a good movie and enjoyable, but it wasn’t quite what a lot of the fans wanted. I think this will be more in line with the original Ghostbusters, so I’m excited about it”."

Plot details are still unknown, but the idea is that it will follow a single mom (Carrie Coon) and her two children (Mckenna Grace and Finn Wolfhard) who discover the old Ghostbusters equipment. Some say they are somehow related to the original team, but again, nothing has been confirmed. Oh, and Paul Rudd will be playing a teacher.

Although this hasn’t been confirmed yet, the movie will reportedly include four actors from the original movie: Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, and Ernie Hudson. When asked about this, Hudson said he hopes he’s part of it and that they’re talking, but nothing has been settled yet.

Feig’s take on the story wasn’t what some fans were expecting but it wasn’t a waste either. The idea of an all-female Ghostbusters team arrived during a time where creators were (and still are) doing their part in fighting gender roles and gender inequality, but it was this same fight that drew controversy to it and ultimately overshadowed the final product.

So far, and with the scarce details we know, it seems like the crew behind the new movie are aiming for a “fan service” type of movie – which is not bad, but let’s just hope the story will not rely on that.
