Bruce Campbell was terrific in his role as Gary “Captain” Green on Lodge 49 last year. This inspired us to make a list of the top 3 series we would love to see him make a guest appearance on. Casting directors, take note!

Bruce Campbell is a versatile character actor that frankly, we would love to see more of. While he is excellent as the host of Ripley’s Believe It or Not! for Travel Channel, we would like to see him get back into the acting game.

Inspired by this notion, we compiled a list of the top 3 TV series that we feel he would be a great guest star on. We know that this probably won’t happen but it sure is fun to think about!

Top 3 TV Series for a Bruce Campbell Guest Appearance

3. Brockmire

Brockmire is an extremely funny show that is absolutely brilliant. Hank Azaria stars as the titular character, Jim Brockmire. At one time, he was at the top of his sportscasting game. That is until he had a rather public meltdown on air when he walked in on his wife participating in an orgy.

For the past 3 seasons, we have watched Jim hit rock bottom by descending into alcohol and drug related escapades. But we have also seen him crawl out of the abyss, sober up and attempt to get his life in order culminating with his rejoining the big leagues calling a game in Oakland.

Yes, this story revolves around baseball but it is more than that. It is about relationships and trying to navigate through a world that at times makes absolutely no sense. Since Brockmire is entering its 4th season and he is in the booth for a Major League team again, Bruce would be perfect for a role as one of Jim’s rivals from another market.

His character would be everything that Brockmire’s is not as in smooth and telegenic thus adding to Jim’s consternation at having to deal with him again. It would be even better if Campbell turned out to be dating Jim’s ex nymphomaniac wife, Lucy.

Let’s face it, Bruce excels at playing smarmy executive types and with his naturally flamboyant personality, being a top-notch sportscaster would fit him like a glove.

2. Project Blue Book

This hit History Channel series takes place during the 50’s when Project Blue Book was in its infancy. Starring Aidan Gillen as Dr. J. Allen Hynek and Michael Malarkey as Captain Michael Quinn, the two lead investigators into reports of Unidentified Flying Objects are constantly seeking the truth about extraterrestrials while dealing with the military and the government.

Lines are blurred, you don’t know who to trust and conspiracies abound. If Bruce were to make a guest appearance on this show, there are several character possibilities. First, it would be interesting to see him in the role of a high ranking military official. He could be a General on the same level as Valentine and Harding but one who is on Hynek and Quinn’s side (think X on The X-Files) providing them with intel when they need it.

Another part he could play would be a traumatized abductee. We have seen Campbell being vulnerable before but this would require a nervousness that he hasn’t really explored. Yes, in Evil Dead, Ash Williams was vulnerable and losing his mind but this would be more of an internal performance.

In real life, Bruce has seen a UFO and he is open to that phenomenon. So, he would bring that to the table which would make his portrayal of someone who has been taken by ETs even more affecting.

1. The Orville

Seth MacFarlane’s sci-fi comedy combines the best of Star Trek with the creator of Family Guy’s humorous touch. Oddly enough, Ash Williams appeared in the mobile FG game, The Quest for Stuff. What would make Bruce a shoe-in for an Orville guest appearance is his love of Trek.

As every one of his followers knows, he is a huge William Shatner fan so much so that for New Year’s Eve, he tweeted a picture of Shatner’s body in his uniform with his head photoshopped on it. So, needless to say, this is a series that would be a no-brainer for him.

Maybe he could be a totally inept Admiral who is woefully out of his league that thinks he knows what he’s doing. Captain Ed Mercer (MacFarlane) and his crew might have to deal with a situation that he has thrust them into which might have dire consequences.

Or what if he was an instructor from the academy that Ed’s ex-wife, Commander Kelly Grayson (Adrianne Palicki) had a crush on who is assigned to the ship for a brief period for some critical peacekeeping mission. It would be a fun dynamic to have Ed try not to be jealous while both men vie for Kelly’s attention and affection.

While we would love to see Bruce Campbell on these shows, chances are it probably won’t happen. Besides, the actor’s dance card is rather full at the moment. However, never say never…
