1. Ed Weihenmayer -Touch the Top of the World

Ed Weihenmayer’s son, Erik is losing his eyesight. In an effort to have him be like children that aren’t physically challenged, he and his wife, Ellen, fight to get him into a public school rather than a specialized one for the blind.

Because Ed treats his son like a person who isn’t impaired, Erik learns how to cope in a sometimes unforgiving world. He ends up becoming a skilled mountain climber and undertakes a journey that is rigorous even for those with sight.

Erik wants to climb Mount Everest. Ed supports his son wholeheartedly and even goes part way with him. In 2001, Erik becomes the only blind person to summit. The mere fact that Ed instills in Erik a drive and treats him like any other child, is a testament to how strong a parent Ed is and how much love he has for his son that he supports him in any venture.
