A psychological thriller for the Times Up era is coming our way
By Mads Lennon
Olivia Wilde is set to star and direct a psychological thriller based around the pervasive horror women face every day due to harassment.
When you consider typical horror concepts, the idea of the Times Up and #MeToo era may not be the first thing to come to mind. But for many women, the ideals these movements fight against is a unique terror they live through daily. Olivia Wilde will tackle this dicey topic in a new film titled Don’t Worry, Darling.
Wilde is currently in the middle of several auctions and deals since the success of Booksmart, her directorial debut and the best-reviewed comedy film of the summer. She and her Booksmart partner, Katie Silberman, are re-teaming for Don’t Worry, Darling.

The movie will center around an unhappy 1950’s housewife. While Vertigo Entertainment is set to produce the film, a studio has not yet been chosen. Don’t fret, studios are dying to get their hands on this project, and it’s currently in the midst of a hot bidding war, per a Deadline exclusive.
Creating a thriller about a topic as heavy-handed as sexual assault and harassment can be tricky to navigate. You want to make sure you don’t make the topic at hand seem ludicrous or unrealistic.
I have the ultimate faith that Olivia Wilde is one of the best people to do this project justice. This is the second time she’s been involved in a bidding war. Recently, she and Silberman’s untitled holiday comedy pitch that was fought over by six different studios.
One of the most appealing parts of this project is the time period. If Wilde is going to play the role of the 1950’s housewife in question, it’ll be fascinating to find out if she’s going to be a standard heroine or more of an antihero.
We all know standards of sexism were much worse than they are now back in the ’50s, this movie will have a land mine of topics and plotlines to choose from. I’m excited to see how this plays out.
And, as this script and Wilde’s involvement is such a buzzworthy topic, the movie will be fast-tracked, and we should get to see it within a year.
If you haven’t gotten the chance to watch Booksmart yet, I highly recommend it. You can watch the trailer for the film right here:
