Mike Flanagan to adapt The Turn of the Screw for The Haunting of Bly Manor
By Carla Davis
Mike Flanagan set the bar high with his Netflix series The Haunting of Hill House. Now he tells us what to expect from season 2: The Haunting of Bly Manor.
Like, The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor will also be adapted from a classic novel. The Haunting of Bly Manor is based on the classic Henry James novel The Turn of the Screw. James’s book was released in 1898 and has been adapted into a film (The Innocents), in addition to inspiring several other movies.
I was thrilled to hear that two cast members from Hill House will return for The Haunting of Bly Manor. Victoria Pedretti, who played adult Nell, will be playing the governess. Oliver Jackson-Cohen, who played the adult Luke, will be portraying a character named Peter.

In James’s novel, Peter Quint is a former member of the household staff who had a relationship with the governess and is now possibly a ghost.
While speaking with Birth.Movies.Death, Flanagan revealed some crucial information about the upcoming new season.
To start with, he plans to incorporate several other Henry James’ ghost stories into the series, meaning there is the probability of more “hidden ghosts.” Flanagan also hinted that in addition to Pedretti and Jackson-Cohen, more actors from season one might return.
I am hoping to see Julian Hilliard and Violet McGraw (young Luke and Nell) as the young brother and sister characters from The Turn of the Screw.
Flanagan promises that he and his team will continue to use practical effects for Bly Manor’s ghosts, much as they did for Hill House. He stated that he thinks The Haunting of Bly Manor will be even scarier than season one.
For those of you not familiar with Mike Flanagan, he is the man responsible for movies such as Oculus, Before I Wake, Ouija: Origin of Evil, and Absentia. He also created the Netflix films Hush and Gerald’s Game, as well as the upcoming Netflix film Midnight Mass.
The film I am most excited about, however, is his adaptation of Stephen King’s novel Dr. Sleep. The film will be released in theaters on November 8 of this year. Dr. Sleep stars Ewan McGregor as the adult version of The Shining’s Danny Torrance. Having read the book, I am looking forward to seeing the movie.
