Halloween Kills: filming set to begin in early September
Michael Myers’ reign of horror is far from over, and the crew behind the new Halloween are ready to start filming Halloween Kills very soon.
It’s true: the film industry is currently full of remakes, reboots, and sequels, but if we’re honest, not all of them are good. The horror genre is very into these trends and has managed to survive with really good takes on classic films, such as the latest Child’s Play, and bringing others back, like David Gordon Green’s Halloween. The latter did so well with critics and fans that it’s coming back for two sequels: Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends.
The new Halloween did what many fans have been doing on their own: ignore the sequels to Carpenter’s original film. Instead, it was a follow-up to the first film, so essentially, it’s Halloween 2, and Halloween Kills would be Halloween 3, but because that can be really confusing, Kills is being referred to as Halloween 2. Good, now that that’s settled, let’s talk about how the sequel is doing.

In an interview with Polygon, co-writer Danny McBride shared an update on Halloween Kills, saying that the script is ready and filming will begin very, very soon.
Jamie Lee Curtis is confirmed to reprise her role as Laurie Strode in both sequels, as well as Nick Castle and James Jude Courtney as Michael Myers. Judy Greer and Andi Matichak are also set to return as Karen and Allyson Nelson, Laurie’s daughter, and granddaughter.
"“Halloween 2 starts filming in like three weeks. That’s already off to the races. The script is almost finished for the third one. Hopefully that’ll go at the same time next year”."
A few weeks back, it was revealed that the Halloween team had reportedly approached Paul Rudd to reprise his role as Tommy Doyle, the boy Laurie was babysitting in the first film and later came back in Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers, but he turned down the offer due to scheduling conflicts, and the crew went for someone else.
There hasn’t been a confirmation on this, so it should be treated as a rumor for now… although it’s fun to imagine how he could be added to the story in a way that doesn’t feel forced.
The new Halloween is good as it is, and the whole “the sequels never happened” concept worked wonders, so it’s exciting to know that they will continue to explore this newly built timeline. It’s a long shot, but let’s hope they share more details once production starts.
