There’s no disputing that Michael Myers wouldn’t be the same without his signature latex mask, but didn’t he look creepy all bandaged up in Halloween 4?

With Halloween Kills currently in production, it might be fun to look back at some of the franchise’s past installments while we anticipate news on upcoming ones. That stated, there’s something about Halloween 4 that stands out to me: Michael’s appearance. Throughout the first act of the movie, we see Michael Myers bandaged up and wearing a hospital gown.

The shots of him are always effective, albeit very brief. While George P. Wilbur is credited as portraying the shape, playing Michael in those specific scenes is actor/stuntman Tom Morga. The dirty, blood-caked gauze changes slightly from scene to scene, however it doesn’t ever lose its creep factor.

The same can’t exactly be said for the mask used in the film. Well, either mask — there were a couple. The truth is some love it, others hate it, most just shrug it off in an attempt to enjoy the movie.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Halloween 4 and I feel it has some of the strongest scenes in the franchise; I certainly wouldn’t say I hate the mask, either. It’s just not one of the better ones sculpts.

It would’ve been an absolutely terrible mistake if Vincent Drug sold out of plain white masks and all that was left for Michael to use was some generic, wide-eyed mask, and no one can deny this film wouldn’t be as appealing without the blank mask and jumpsuit.

But would the film have worked if there were more scenes with Michael bandaged before getting the mask?

There are a lot of dry, dusty shooting locations featured in the movie, and it would be cool to have seen bandaged Michael walking around some more, whether it’s somewhere like the road Dr. Loomis is stranded on, or in locations like the ones shown during the opening title sequence.
