Everything we know so far about The Craft reboot
By Mads Lennon
Whether or not you’re excited for the upcoming Blumhouse reimagining of The Craft, it’s happening. We’ve got the scoop on everything you need to know.
The Craft is one of the most iconic witch movies of all time. It has cemented its place as a cult favorite of the genre and for witch-lovers everywhere.
But seeing as it is the way of Hollywood these days, The Craft is getting a modern-day reboot. The news has received its fair share of backlash, although some are more willing to see what the film would look like made today.
I’m of two minds about it. I don’t think the film needs a remake and I would rather see more original stories about witches. However, I also believe it could be interesting to see how the movie comes out in the era of #MeToo and other important feminist-fronted movements.

The cast
According to Entertainment Weekly, the main cast of The Craft has been established. The movie will star Cailee Spaeny (Bad Times at El Royale), Gideon Adlon (The Society, Blockers), Lovie Simone (Greenleaf), and Zoey Luna (Pose). It’s unclear which actress will play which character, or if they might have new character names and personalities altogether.
Is it a reboot, remake, or sequel?
It can be confusing to try and keep track of what Hollywood is doing with our beloved films and franchises. Are they redoing it? Making a sequel, as they did with last year’s Halloween? Or are they doing something else entirely?
The Craft is going to be a “reimagining” of the original film. That’s a fancy term for a remake, but I imagine they’re going to alter storylines to make it appeal more to the younger generations of our current times.
The director
I admit one thing I am excited about is that the new version of The Craft will be written and directed by a woman. Zoe Lister-Jones will write, direct, and produce the film. You might have seen her on shows like New Girl and Life in Pieces.
Release date
As of yet, we don’t have a release date for The Craft. But I imagine the movie will go into production by early next year. We can probably anticipate a 2020 release date.
Blumhouse’s next big project is the upcoming remake of Black Christmas, due out this December.
