1. Aliens (1986)

  • Directed by: James Cameron
  • Starring: Sigourney Weaver, Michael Biehn, Paul Reiser, Lance Henriksen, and Bill Paxton

Aliens is the follow-up to the original 1979 film, Alien. The movie is directed by James Cameron and sees the return of Ellen Ripley, Sigourney Weaver’s iconic character.

Aliens is considered by many fans to be the best movie in the Alien franchise, even surpassing the first movie. That rarely happens, especially when the first film is considered such an iconic film and classic sci-fi movie.

That doesn’t mean Alien is bad, on the contrary, it holds up as a masterful film and work of suspense. Aliens just pushes the concept the extra mile.

Aliens was nominated for seven Academy Awards and has been dubbed as one of the greatest film sequels by many publications. The film holds a 99% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The story of the sequel follows Lt. Ripley after she wakes up in space having been in stasis for 57 years after the vents of the first movie. Her shuttle is discovered by a salvage team. When they reach their destination, they find a young girl named Newt is the only survivor and they must face a colony of violent aliens.
