Sam Raimi’s new horror anthology series 50 States of Fright finds its cast

Quibi is shaping up to be the next streaming service to beat. Sam Raimi’s upcoming horror anthology, 50 States of Fright, will be hosted on the site.
We recently reported that Quibi would feature an intriguing twist on the house-flipping television we all know and love by introducing a true-crime element. But that’s not the only spooky series you’ll be able to watch on the upcoming streaming platform. Deadline reports Quibi has given Sam Raimi the green light for his new horror series.
The show will be an anthology titled 50 States of Fright. It boasts an impressive cast, including Christina Ricci, Travis Fimmel, Rachel Brosnahan, Jacob Batalon, Ming-Na Wen, Taissa Farmiga, Asa Butterfield, Ron Livingston, and John Marshall Johns. Each actor listed will star in at least one episode of 50 States of Fright.
Per Deadline’s article, the first season of the anthology will focus on urban legends in states like Michigan, Colorado, and Iowa. It sounds like the show will tell the story of one state’s urban legend per episode.

It’s a fascinating idea for a television series. It’s not dissimilar to the early seasons of Supernatural when much of the focus was on Sam and Dean traveling town-to-town and investigating urban legends come to life. It’ll be interesting to see Raimi’s take on each tale and the horror that might lay in our backyards.
Information about what we can expect from a few of the episodes is also available. The Michigan episode will star Brosnahan, Fimmel, and Jones. It will be titled “The Golden Arm.” Sam Raimi and Ivan Raimi will co-write and direct.
“Red Rum” will focus on Colorado’s scariest story. Based on the title, I think we can anticipate a visit to the Stanley Hotel, otherwise known as the Overlook Hotel in The Shining.
Farmiga and Livingston will star in the Iowa episode, “Almost There,” written by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods of A Quiet Place.
It’s not clear how long the episodes will be. We know that Murder House Flip will be short, bite-sized episodes. I think most Quibi series will follow in that format, and the idea of 50 State Frights lends itself to that style.
