Another member joins The Craft’s coven

Star of True Detective and the Mission Impossible franchise, Michelle Monaghan, has joined the ever-growing cast of Sony’s re-imagining of The Craft.
Production on Sony’s upcoming re-imagining of The Craft is well underway now. It appears most of the film’s cast is established with the lead characters being played by Gideon Adlon, Lovie Simon, and Zoey Luna. Recently, we also learned that X-Files star, David Duchovny would be joining The Craft in an unspecified role.
Deadline exclusively learned that Michelle Monaghan has also been cast. Again, her role is being kept under wraps, but that doesn’t mean we can’t speculate on the possibilities. It’s unlikely she’ll be playing a character from the original film unless perhaps they combine a few into making a new one.
Monaghan is a hot actress right now. She starred in series like True Detective and films like Mission Impossible: Fallout, Patriots Day, and Gone Baby Gone.

Next, Monaghan will star in a Netflix action-thriller called Messiah. She’ll play a CIA agent named Eve Geller, who must embark on a high-stakes mission to track down a man who could be a global threat.
Given her acting pedigree, I doubt Monaghan is going to play a minor role in the film. It would certainly be interesting to see her character play alongside Duchovny. Perhaps she could be The Craft’s antagonist?
Beyond the cast and Zoe Lister-Jone’s involvement as both writer and director, we know very little about this version of The Craft. So far, Sony and Blumhouse have only teased it as a re-imagining of the original film. But it does seem like they’re putting a new spin on the original story, which involved a group of girls using their unique abilities to seek revenge on those who wronged them.
I can’t imagine they would change the pivotal “Rule of Three,” however, as it was a huge point of conflict in the 1996 film. I supposed we’ll have to wait and find out! Stay tuned to 1428 Elm for all the latest updates on The Craft.
