The Ultimate Team

1428 Elm: How did you become involved with World’s Biggest Ghost Hunt? Was it through your relationship with Discovery?

Katie Burr: Working in production, you realize what a small world it actually is, especially when it comes to the paranormal. I knew one of the producers of our show from a few mutual friends, and when he told me about this project, he was working on I realized it was something I really wanted to be a part of.

At first I was a little hesitant about the fact that we would be living, working, and sleeping on the premises for 2 weeks straight with a bunch of strangers, (it honestly sounded like paranormal Real World), but the opportunity to investigate such a cool location that no one gets this kind of access to was too hard to pass up.

Honestly it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life to be a part of this project. I got to meet and instantly bond with a group of amazing friends and teammates, and experience some of the most life changing events with them that forever bonded us together.

1428 Elm: This was a very harrowing investigation. Without giving away anything, was there a particular location on the Pennhurst Asylum premises that spoke to you?

Katie Burr: The Devon building by far was the most terrifying location we investigated at Pennhurst. I had no idea what to expect going into that place, just knew it was a huge space and was honestly mostly just dreading the logistical aspects of the investigation. I was nowhere near prepared for the experiences we would have in that building, and can safely say that none of us have been the same ever since.

That was yet another building that I walked into and immediately sensed something felt off. The energy was dark and stagnant, and I wasn’t sure exactly why, but it almost felt to me like being in a vacuum. I thought at the time it was just from it being secluded and sealed off, but there really is something about the energy in that building that sets it apart from the others on campus.

When we arrived at Pennhurst, I had an expectation that Quaker was the ominous building to look out for due to the violent claims coming out of there. Devon was honestly not even on my radar, but after several nights of investigating there, I definitely had a nickname for it that involved swapping the ‘v’ in Devon for an ‘m’.

1428 Elm: What’s next for you? Do you have any upcoming projects lined up?

Katie Burr: Lately I’ve been doing a lot of really cool investigations around the LA area and exploring my home turf, but I’m also just extremely excited about our special premiering and getting to share our Pennhurst experience with everyone. It’s definitely exciting to finally be able to share the events that bonded our team together and changed all of our lives even beyond the show.
