The Witcher: Netflix sets premiere date of upcoming dark fantasy series

The Witcher is an incredibly popular dark fantasy saga spanning books and video games. Next, the series will get its Netflix debut this December.
Monster hunters, get excited, Netflix has officially announced the premiere date of upcoming series based on The Witcher. We’ll finally get to see Geralt of Rivia, Yennefer, and Ciri in all their glory in a big-budget production on the streaming service.
You’ll be able to binge the entire first season beginning on December 20! That’s the perfect Christmas gift for fans of the franchise and the news was delivered as a spooky Halloween treat!
We received the main trailer for the series about a month ago and it appears that Netflix will dig heavily into the extensive monster lore in the series.

If you’ve read the books or played the games, you know that Geralt is an accomplished monster-hunter.
The purpose of a witcher is not unlike a bounty hunter, except they generally hunt down terrifying creatures like leshens, werewolves, wraiths, and more. For a price, of course.
In addition to having the release date announced, the official Twitter account for the upcoming series has also shared a brand new full-length trailer for the series! We’ve embedded the tweet below.

The trailer gives us a much better vision of what we can anticipate from the series. The special effects look excellent and it appears no money was spared in creating a visual feast for the eyes. Plus, we get a little peek at a certain infamous bathtub moment featuring Geralt himself.
Henry Cavill, best known for playing Superman/Clark Kent in the DC cinematic universe, will play the titular role of Geralt. Anya Chalotra, whose acting credentials include The ABC Murders and Sherwood, will play Yennefer and Freya Allan will play Ciri. Allan also stars in the upcoming series The Third Day.
